Manager I, Engineering - Live Debugging

Datadog’s Live Debugging team builds developer tools that help engineers understand and fix production issues autonomously without redeploying code or interrupting their services. 

As an Engineering Manager on this team, you will lead a group of experienced backend and frontend engineers working across product, technical, design, and AI development challenges. You will help shape the technical roadmap, guide execution, and partner with APM, Logs, and Developer Integrations to make Live Debugging essential for discovering, validating, and resolving production issues.

You will be building tools used by engineers just like yourself, with startup-like ownership and speed, backed by Datadog’s stability, scale, and large existing customer base.

This is an opportunity to grow with a newer product area in the fast-moving AI development space while building broader scope through product ownership, team leadership, and technical direction.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead a team of backend and frontend engineers building the Live Debugger.

• Shape the technical roadmap and turn product goals into clear engineering plans.

• Partner with Product, Design, APM, Logs, Software Delivery, and the Developer Integrations group.

• Coach engineers on execution, technical decisions, and career growth.

• Hold a high bar for quality, simplicity, reliability, and customer impact.

• Participate in the team’s on-call rotation and improve how we own production systems.

Who You Are:

• Experienced managing engineers and delivering high-quality software.

• Strong software development skills in Go, Java, Python or similar languages.

• Comfortable leading work across backend, frontend, and production systems.

• Product & start up minded, with a focus on practical solutions to customer problems.

• Hands-on with AI coding tools, including reviewing and improving AI-generated output.

• Clear communicator across engineering, product, and design.

• Collaborative, proactive, and curious about how AI is changing software development.
