About the role
We’re seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to support the continuous running, reliability, and safety of our manufacturing plant in Auckland. You’ll respond to breakdowns, carry out routine and preventative maintenance, assist with equipment installations, and ensure all work is completed to a high technical standard. This hands-on role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, experience across complex manufacturing equipment, and the ability to work both independently and alongside production and engineering teams.
This role operates on the afternoon shift, with working hours of 2:00pm to 10:00pm.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to machinery breakdowns, diagnose faults, and return equipment to serviceable condition.
Carry out preventative maintenance including inspections, scheduled checks, calibrations, cleaning, and component overhauls.
Design and implement maintenance strategies, procedures, and methods to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
Assist with specification, installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of plant and equipment, including risk assessments and safety plans.
Supervise engineering assistants, technical staff, and contractors, ensuring adherence to protocols and procedures.
Manage maintenance tools, workshop stores, and spare parts, including ordering and stock control.
Maintain clear documentation and communicate progress with supervisors, managers, and engineering teams.
Skills And Experiences
What you will bring to the role
National Certificate Level 4 in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
EST practising licence.
Forklift License, an advantage but not essential.
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and complex machinery documentation.
Competence in Microsoft Office for data analysis and reporting.
Ability to create engineering drawings using CAD software.
Strong problem‑solving skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks.
